“This is going to be a warm visit”
Christmas garden in Eyjafjörður is a must see when you visit Akureyri !
We start driving through the beautiful old town of Akureyri and then we drive along the coastline of the fjord to the Christmas house where we find a Christmas melodies and aroma in the air and the fire glows and crackles in the fireplace. The fairytale tower house is the world’s biggest Christmas calendar and it’s worth climbing the stairs for. In the little house there is pleasant smell of smoked mutton, hangikjöt and the unique hand carved cakes. And who knows if you see the Icelandic yule lads and their terrible parents Grýla and Leppalúði hiding somewhere around. We also stop in „Kaffi Kú“ coffe-house. The restaurant is located in the loft area above the cow barn at Garður farm. Refreshments are diverse, using their own production from the farm as much as possible, mostly Icelandic beef and milk. So on the menu they have for an example: roast beef bagels, hamburgers, beef jerky, homemade skyr, milkshake and delicious cakes and freshly ground coffee.
You can watch the cows through a glass viewing point from the restaurant. On our way back we stop for some sightseeing where you can see over the fjord to Akureyri.
